Friday Feb. 23rd

Hello Families,

This week we have been working on our "Body" section of the holistic framework. We talked about personal space and how it is important to respect the personal space of others. We brainstormed ideas of how we learn best in the classroom and what things happen that might make it hard to learn. We drew pictures to show this understanding, ask your child what helps them to learn best?

In math we celebrated 100 days of school. Hard to believe that we are 100 days into grade 1 already. We worked with numbers to 100, make 100 glasses and coloured in 100 shapes. As as class we explored what 100 drops of water looks like, we read 100 books, wrote 100 words and wrote what we would do at 100 year old. The kids had so much fun. We are continuing to explore numbers to 100.

In literacy we are focusing on learning our diagraphs, which are when two letters go together to make a new sounds. Any practice at home would be helpful. I will link in a video to help.

*** Your child no longer needs to bring their yellow duo tangs to school. We are finished with them and students can keep them at home to read familiar text. We are sending home a new, blue duo tang this week with three pages of text in it.  The text in there for this week are the lessons we are working on this week in class, the ng and nk sounds. For the past two weeks we have been learning about digraphs (two consonants that make one sound or phoneme). We have learned about sh, ch, th, ck, ph and wh. This week we are learning about ng, and nk.   Students should be able to read through most of the text as many of the irregular (words we learn by heart) words in the text are words we have already learned. Please return the blue duo tang each day as we will be updating the text based on the skills we will be targeting so student have access to text that helps them practice what we are learning.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Bredahl and Mrs. Kennedy
