Yesterday we had two successful concert and the students were so proud of their hard work. Today we had the opportunity to watch the grade 4/5 concert and learned about different types of instruments and rhythms. We did have to have a discussion about respectful manners and that while we can do 'the wave' and 'woohoo' at other performances and games, it is not appropriate at a school concert. Another life lesson:) Ask your child to tell you about the concert and what they enjoyed.
Our target sounds this week have been the 'x' and 'qu' sounds. These are tricky because they actually are two sounds. the 'x' is a ks sound and the 'qu' is a kw sound. Any practice at home having your child spell simple words like box, next, quit, quilt, quack etc. would help their understanding of these sounds.
In math we are finishing our unit on length and students have been learning that the distance between two points is the length. This can be going up as in height, walking a route, or across as in width. We have also learned that the distance between two points can be different depending on whether it is a straight line or we move around obstacles to get to were we are going.
Next Friday is our last day before the break and students are encouraged to dress in their pjs as the school will be having a PJ day. Please leave stuffies at home so they are not accidentally forgot over the break.
