There was a mix up with the Raz Reading forms that were sent home yesterday in the front of the yellow duo tangs. If you can please send the form back we can get them to the correct families. You can log into the accounts with the square that was glued onto the inside of the yellow duo tang. This web sight is great for additional reading as students can choose their books and there are comprehension questions to see if your child is able to understand what they are reading.
In math we are building number lines and practicing our counting to make sure it is accurate. We have been using a deck of cards and putting them in order from 1(Ace) to 10. Today we played a game with a peer where each partner turned over a card. They then looked to see whose was greater. For example if a 7 and a 3 were turned over, the 7 is greater and that person would get both cards. When all cards are used they count to see how many cards they have.
We continue to work on basketball skills such as dribbling and passing in gym and the students are getting much more confident.
In our writing unit, we are working on finger spaces, and upper case letters to begin a sentence. Students are given two or three letter decodable words (words that have the correct sounds associated with each letter). Today was much better with regards to perseverance. If your child is eager, any practice of finding how many sounds are in a word and then printing them correctly would help to build skills and confidence. An example is 'get', the students tap each sound on their fingers or arm to find g e t and then print the sounds in order. We are familiar with pig, pug, tag, tin, sat, map, nap, pin, etc. We have learned the vowels a, i, u, o, and consonants m, n, d, g, s, t, p, c, f, any mixture of these letters into CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) will benefit their understanding of blending sounds to make words.
