What a Fantastic First Day!

Welcome families, to our grade one class.  We are fortunate to have the space that was previously the learning commons to accommodate the two classes and the students loved having so many familiar faces and new friends to visit with.

Ask your child what the first step they need to do is when going to the lunch room (find their name on a popsicle stick on the trifold for our class and move it to a spot below to show they are in the lunch room).  We have a small snack of one or two items around 9:45 before we go out for recess. Today many students were hungry and ate most of their lunch before we could remind them to save some for lunch.  A good trick is to have two separate containers or bags, one for lunch with more choices and a snack one that  has a few snacks that they know to eat from in the morning.  Bringing a water bottle everyday is encouraged so students can grab a quick drink as needed in the class.

Students (and teachers:) had a long day and so your child might not feel like talking or doing anything tonight.  They  played a game called "Me Too" where a peer said something about themselves such as "I have a sister" and those who had a sister would say "me too". This allowed them to see how many things they had in common with their classmates. We also listened to a story called "The Kissing Hand" and made our own hands to bring home and give to someone we missed today. Check your child's backpack for the paper. Students also made a picture of themselves on the first day of school,  made a coat hook name tag and got to know many new peers while playing centers. Ask them who they met today and what was one thing they liked about their new class.
