Our trip to Heritage Park was a lot of fun and the students have been writing about their favourite parts of the field trip. The bus ride, the one room school house, making patterns, and visiting many different buildings were some of the more popular choices. You can see an example of their writing below.
We are finishing up our learning about urban and rural communities and students combined art and social studies to show their understanding of these communities. An example of these are below. Ask your child what they put in their picture and how they can tell if a community is rural or urban.
In math we continue to work on our strategies for solving basic facts. We are getting very good at solving 10+ and 9+ equations and are now working on remembering our doubles facts by connecting them to items we are familiar with. Ask your child how they remember 6+6= or 9+9=, or any of the doubles facts to 20.
To represent the different strategies we have been learning about in our wellness unit, to help us when we are in a zone that is stopping us from learning our best, students created a toolbox and put 3-4 strategies that they think work well to help them regulate their feelings and help them get into the green zone where they can focus and feel good about their learning. Ask your child what 'tools' they put in their tool box that they can also use at home if they are upset or feeling down.
