It was wonderful to see the students this morning and to listen to them catching up with peers. We had a day were we reviewed some familiar skills in reading and writing and began our introduction to addition.
Your child's yellow duo tangs have the 6 texts that were put in there before the break and for those students who were away, the pages have been put in today. Many students said they did not get a chance to read all of the new texts so we are going to just have those be the texts to read or reread for the next few days. All of these texts are at grade level for where your child is expected to currently be reading. Sounding out is fine but we are hoping students are becoming more fluent with the heart words (don't follow the regular rules for sounding out) and familiar words that they have seen in many of the texts. We are expecting students to have read all of these pages more than 3 times by the end of January, as we will then begin a new duo tang with more challenging texts that progress with our lessons.
Reminder that all students will be going outside for recess, lunch recess and sometimes for phys. ed and science so it is important that everyone is dressed warm and has all of the clothes they need for temperatures up to - 19 degrees.
