Today the whole school was treated to a performance called "Cinderella" by Alberta Musical Theatre. It was a bit different than the traditional story and involved dancing and being yourself. The students enjoyed the music, singing, and dancing. Ask your child what they enjoyed about it.
Reminder that we have Fun Snack on Wednesday for anyone who ordered.
Reminder that it is Mrs. Brice's library day tomorrow so please return all books.
Today in math we began our introduction to subtraction. We learned that a minus sign means take away and that the answer will be smaller than what we started with. We practiced using items to represent the numbers and then focused on not adding the second number they see in an equation, but removing that many from the items in front of them. We also began by using a story to help the students make sense of subtraction. For example for the number sentence 8-4=. We started with 8 birds at the pond (and used 8 cubes) and then 4 flew away (we took away 4 cubes). There were 4 left at the end of the story. Any practice with this skill at home will help to build confidence and understanding.
