What a Snowy Day!

Today in our writing unit we learned the different types of sentences we write. We can write statements, questions, and commands such as 'Stop!'. Ask your child what type of punctuation is needed for the sentence 'Do you like to play in the snow'.

With all of the snow today, we had some anxiety and tears around getting dressed for recess and lunch.  We have let the students know that they are expected to try to get themselves ready (zippers, mitts, boots) before asking for our help. We cannot help 44 students to get all their clothes on so any practice at home will help us out as we try to all get dressed as quickly as possible.

Some areas you can work on at home are to pull the elastic in their snow pants around their boots to keep snow out. We also encourage students to put their mittens on last so they can put on their boots and do up their jackets independently. We know that it is hard for them to pull their jackets over their mitts or to put their mitts over their jackets so once outside they can approach us for help doing this but again, we hope they can try to do one on their own or ask a peer to help as well.

Lots of life skills in grade one as there is a lot more opportunity to get dressed in a day.

In math today we began looking at numbers between 10 and 20. We used ten frames to create teen numbers by looking at a full ten frame to represent the 10 and another with the one's value e.g. 8, 4 etc. to build 18 and 14.
