October 13th, 2023

                  .
This week we began teaching our students that when we are printing words, they need to leave finger spaces between each word. Students practiced copying a given sentence with a space onto a white board Tuesday and then into a journal onto Thursday. We have been having students count how many words they hear in a sentence by tapping them with their fingers.  Ask your child to tell you how many words are in the sentence ' I sat on the mat.'

Today in our writing lesson, students were given a sentence to record into their journal but they were not given the sentence visually to copy.  We have been writing some decodable three letter words each day based on the letters we have been learning the sounds for. e.g. mat, did, sat, in. This was a new task and we had some tears due to students worrying about getting it correct. We had told them the spelling wasn't the most important aspect and we were looking to see finger spaces between each word. Practicing having them write any three letter words at home may help with their confidence in recording words in a timely manner. Some examples are 'get, nap, not, win, in, as, top'

This week we visited the pond to collect leaves that had fallen onto the ground. We spoke about the importance of not picking leaves as the tree still needs the ones that are still attached. Students found many different kinds and shapes of leaves to bring back to the class. We read the book 'Leaf Man' to generate ideas of what students could create in our art unit of using different media to create art. The pictures above show some of the art that was created by our class. They are amazing!

Reminder that Mrs. Brice's class has library on Tuesday.

Reminder that we are still awaiting some family photos.
